KARACHI, Nov 23: The Sindh education department has begun the process of registering private educational institutions under the Sindh Private Educational Institutions (Regulation and Control) Ordinance-2001.

Private schools’ managements are required to submit applications for registration in the case of Pre-nursery class to Class XII or A level with the EDO (Education) of the district concerned, and in the case of higher education institutions with the Secretary Education, Sindh, till Dec 20.

Under the rules, educational institutions were required to apply on the prescribed form, ie, Form A, with complete details, relevant documents and specified fees, sources in the education department said.

All the educational institutions whether previously registered or unregistered running under one and the same management or their branches operating in different areas shall have to get registered separately. The minimum number of students should not be less than 30.

The registration authority on receipt of application would constitute an inspection committee which would collect information about the institution and submit its recommendations to the registration authority within 30 days.

The annual registration fee is equal to one month’s tuition fee charged by the applicant institution at its higher tier class. The registration will be valid for five years.

The department has asked private schools’ managements not to delay their registration and get it in time, as action shall be taken against those failing to do so under the law and penal action shall be taken which could include closure of institution and fine or any other penalty prescribed under the law.
