PESHAWAR/KARAK, Dec 12: The District Police Officer of Karak on Monday suspended the SHO of the Yaqub Khan Police Station and charged three other policemen for failing to provide proper security to the brother of an alleged victim of gang rape who was gunned down outside a city court last Friday.

Official sources said the DPO took the action only after the provincial police chief ordered him to do so.

A statement issued by the Home Department in Peshawar noted that despite written directions from the provincial police chief “the relevant police officials failed to provide adequate security to Alamzeb, who was murdered outside the courts in Takht-i-Nusrati area of Karak”.

It said the superintendent of investigation, Karak, has been ordered to begin probe into the case, with DPO Karak, to ascertain who was responsible for not providing security to the slain person.

The case of the alleged rape victim's kidnapping had been registered at the police station on October 9, 2010, on the orders of an additional district and sessions judge in Karak when an application was moved there by her mother claiming that the police were reluctant to register the FIR.She had charged 13 people with her kidnapping, keeping her in habeas corpus and raping for over one year.

Provincial Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti had also taken notice of the case and ordered an inquiry committee with secretary home and tribal affairs as its head.

FAMILY'S SECURITY INCREASED: Karak police on Monday increased the security of the alleged rape victim's family and said they were committed to bringing killers of her brother, Alamzeb, to justice.

The move came after a meeting of police officials from the district at Takht Nusrati DPO offices.

District police officer Sajid Mohmand chaired the meeting, which was attended by all relevant police officials.

The meeting was told that four suspects, including a friend of the main accused, had been arrested and that a special task force had been formed for the arrest of the rape victim's killers.
