KARACHI: 31 bikes, 7 cars hijacked

KARACHI, Nov 19: Thirty-eight vehicles — seven cars and 31 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Tuesday, police said.

Two cars were hijacked. Five others were stolen.

Fifteen motorcycles were hijacked. Sixteen others were stolen.

ROBBERY: One robbery was committed in the city on Tuesday, police said.

Two armed men barged into Alam Welfare Centre behind Mumtaz Manzil in Gulshan-i-Iqbal and robbed Sami Ahmed of his mobile phone and Rs4,000 and a visiting woman at the Centre of her jewellery.

ACCIDENT: A young man died in a road accident in Gulistan-i- Jauhar on Tuesday.

Police said a long trailer of the NLC knocked down a motorcyclist, later identified as Waseem, aged 22, near Pehelwan goth, Gulistan-i-Jauhar. He died on way to the JPMC.

Police claimed to have impounded the trailer, but the driver escaped.

FIRE: A fire broke out at a shopping centre in Saddar on Tuesday.

A spokesman for the fire brigade said the fire started in the basement of Noman Centre near Empress Market. The fire was brought under control before it could do any serious damage.
