KARACHI, Nov 25: A 70-year-old furniture dealer on Friday was shot dead at his outlet near Ziauddin Hospital in North Nazimabad in a sectarian attack, police and witnesses said.

Ghulam Hasan aka Fauji, son of Meheruddin, was at Sajjadia Furnitures where two men came on a motorcycle at around 1.45pm, the witnesses said.

They added that the pillion rider went into the shop and shot at the victim as his accomplice waited for him on their bike. The assailants rode away after the swift operation, the witnesses added.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for an autopsy. Medico-legal sources said that the victim was shot dead at point-blank range. A bullet went through the skull, they added.

The North Nazimabad police said that a 9mm pistol was used in the killing.

They said it was a sectarian murder case.

Earlier two supporters of the banned Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan were killed in the vicinity, the police added.

The police later registered a case (FIR 562/2011) against two unidentified attackers under Sections 302 (pre-meditated murder) and 34 (common intention) on a complaint of the victim’s son, Nisar Akbar.

Fisherman killed

A fisherman was stabbed to death by his colleague over a monetary dispute in Ibrahim Haideri, police said.

They added that the victim, Mukhtiar, son of Salim, and the suspect, Yousuf, were sitting at a roadside tea stall near Benazir Chowk to settle a monetary dispute. In the meantime, they had an altercation that led to the stabbing, the police said.

The suspect was overpowered by onlookers who later handed him over to the police.

The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where medico-legal sources said that the victim received fatal stabs in his upper torso.

A murder case was registered against the suspect on a complaint of the victim’s cousin, Jalal Din.

The two fishermen, both unmarried and residents of Ibrahim Haideri, had returned from a week-long fishing trip on Thursday.
