GILGIT, Nov 23: Dozens of relatives of a man, who died of wounds on Wednesday, blocked the main road of Gilgit for hours demanding of the authorities concerned to arrest the killers. The victim identified as Tahir was shot and injured by unidentified men in Jutial area along with another man. Police said the victim was resident of Astor district.

The protesters were carrying placards inscribed with slogans against the administration.

Meanwhile, the killing also echoed in the Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly on Wednesday as parliamentary secretary Abdul Hamid told the house that the hospital where the Tahir was admitted to did not cooperate with the family in transportation of the body to his hometown. He said the troublemakers were expanding their area of influence in the region.

Meanwhile, contractors block some link roads on Wednesday to protest against non-payment of dues by the public works and water and power departments.

Meanwhile, hundreds of students belonging to various government and private colleges gathered in front of the Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly on Wednesday and protested against the education department for transferring some teachers out of Gilgit.

The students chanted slogans against the education department and said the students of Gilgit were being deprived of senior teachers.

The students kept the road blocked for several hours. The students lifted the road blockade after the education minister assured them that the transferred teachers would be recalled.

ASSEMBLY SESSION: The Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly on Wednesday thanked the government of China for extending relief to 25,000 calamity-stricken population of Gojal tehsil of upper Hunza for second consecutive year.

The house unanimously approved a resolution tabled by technocrat member Mutabiat Shah, who said continuous help from China had helped ease suffering of the affected people.
