Man gets life for murder

KARAK, Nov 21: The additional district and sessions judge, Takht Nusrati, on Monday awarded life imprisonment to a murder accused and fined him Rs200,000.

The judge, Ihtasham Ali, sentenced Asif Nawaz to life imprisonment for killing his cousin about a year ago over a land dispute.

Meanwhile, Minister for Prisons Mian Nisar Gul Kakakhel on Monday inaugurated a water supply scheme completed at Rs3.8 million at Ghundi Mir Khan Khel. He said the scheme would resolve the drinking water problem of of people.

The minister said the tender of the road from Niazi well to Palosa Sar had been advertised in newspapers and very soon practical work would be started. — Correspondent

Three suspects held

GHALANAI, Nov 21: The security forces on Monday continued a house-to-house search operation and arrested three suspects in Halki Gandao area of Ekkaghund tehsil of Mohmand Agency.

Officials said the security forces also recovered rifles, rockets and rounds of different bore during the search operation. The arrested men were taken to Ghallanai for interrogation. — Correspondent

Man found murdered

MANSEHRA, Nov 21: Unidentified attackers killed a man at his residence in Mufti Abad area on Monday.

Police said the body of Mohammad Imran alias Mana was found at his residence when his family members returned home on Monday evening. The body was handed over to the family after autopsy.

Meanwhile, the DPO Ijaz Ahmad Khan said on Monday impartial investigation would be ensured in the killing of the four alleged timber smugglers in Pulrah last week.

Talking to reporters Mr Ahmad said a high-level team headed by SSP investigation Mohammad Khalid Khan was probing the matter in highly impartial manner and facts behind the killing would be made public. Mr Khan said a foolproof security plan had been finalised for Muharram.—Correspondent

PML-Q leader joins PTI

PESHAWAR, Nov 21: A PML-Q leader and former candidate from PK-12 Nowshera Mian Khaliq-ur-Rehman on Monday joined the PTI.

Speaking at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club he said PML-Q had ignored its manifesto and its leadership by joining the government had disappointed the workers.

Mr Khaliq said he had apprised the leadership of the workers’ reservations and opposed joining the government as the PPP had always described PML-Q as qatil league (murderer league). — Bureau Report
