SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: A police constable was killed when rival groups traded fire over a land dispute in Toi Khullah tehsil of Lower South Waziristan district on Friday.
The police said groups led by Amanullah Dottani and constable Rehmanullah Dottani ran the land dispute for a long time.
The police said as a result of firing, constable Rehmanullah was seriously injured. He was shifted to Wana Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
In another incident, a constable, Nabil Khan Wazir, sustained injuries when two vehicles collided on Wana Bypass.
Wana city police station SHO Amjad Wazir told Dawn that the accident occurred due to over-speeding. The injured was shifted to the DHQ Hospital Wana.
Meanwhile, workers of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl and other political parties organised a demonstration on Friday against the life attempt on the JUI-F district president Maulana Mirza Jan Wazir in Wana Bazaar.
Mirza Jan was seriously injured when he was attacked on Daza Ghundai Azam Warsak Road on Thursday evening. He was airlifted to CMH Peshawar for treatment.
Workers of PPP, ANP, PkMAP, PTI, JI and civil society activists participated in the protest.
Addressing the protesters, JUI-F district general secretary Maulana Rafiuddin Wazir, Wana tehsil chairman Maulana Saleh Wazir, MPA Ajab Gul Wazir and former senator Saleh Shah demanded of the provincial and federal governments to arrest the worsening law and order situation in the district.
They said if the government failed to take practical steps to improve the law and order, political parties would be forced to stage protests.
