Strong ties with Afghanistan urged

Published November 19, 2002

PESHAWAR, Nov 18: The president of the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), Ghulam Sarwar Mohmand, has urged the world community and the US to help promote ties between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

According to a statement issued on Monday, he was talking to the Commercial Consular of the Canadian High Commission in Islamabad, John Burbridger, at the Chamber House in the provincial metropolis.

Mr Mohmand said that the strong relations between the two brotherly Islamic states would encourage the Pakistani business community to take part in the reconstruction and rehabilitation of Afghanistan in a better way.

He said that Pakistan had played a front line state role in the war against terrorism, therefore, the international community should also play its pivotal role in promoting the ties between the two countries.

The SCCI chief said that the Pakistani business community had great chances in the reconstruction of Afghanistan, however, both the countries should step forward and exchange trade delegations.

He also discussed matters relating to the foreign investment and mutual interest between Pakistan and Canada.—APP
