GILGIT, Nov 15: People took to the streets on Tuesday to protest against the unscheduled loadshedding which has become routine in the region.

The residents of Jutial locality of the Gilgit town blocked the road at Public Chowk and burnt tyres chanting slogans against the water and power department for pushing the area into darkness through carrying out unscheduled loadshedding.

Due to the protest all kinds of traffic was suspended on the road. Police were called to control the mob, after which the demonstrators dispersed peacefully.

Meanwhile, hundreds of people took out a protest rally and blocked the Chitral-Ghizer road in Phandar valley against the water and power department. They demanded of the authorities concerned to ensure uninterrupted electricity to the area. On the other hand, inmates of district jail Gilgit also staged a protest against loadshedding and threatened to continue the protest if prolonged power outages were not stopped.
