ISLAMABAD: A strong Pakistan outfit will depart for India on October 30 to participate in the World Cup Kabaddi tournament that takes place from November 1.

“Our boys are in good shape and well prepared for the event. We are expecting some good results from them,” Secretary Pakistan Kabaddi Federation (PKF) Muhammad Sarwar told APP on Friday.

Sarwar said that the squad for the World Cup would be announced on October 28.

Regarding the Asian Kabaddi Championship that was scheduled to be held in December in Pakistan, he said that the federation had extended invitation to 12 teams, but so far only China had confirmed their participation in the event.

According to the PKF Secretary, the Asian Kabaddi Federation (AKF) awarded hosting rights to Pakistan but as most of the teams were not willing to take part in the championship in December, it was unlikely to be held this year.

“It is more likely that the event will now be held in April, next year,” he said.

He however added that a final decision in that regard would be taken in the AKF meeting to be held in India next month, during the World Kabaddi tournament.

He also said that the President of the PKF would soon meet members of the Pakistan Kabaddi team that defeated India in the recently concluded South Asian Beach Games and announce prizes for them.

Pakistan outclassed traditional rivals India 42-33 to clinch the Kabaddi gold of the South Asian Beach Games at Hambantota, Sri Lanka earlier this month.
