ISLAMABAD, Oct 12: A person wandering near the Parliament House was taken into custody by the police on Wednesday, the sources said.

Later, he was handed over to the family as he was found suffering from mental ailment during interrogation.

The man was spotted near the Parliament House where Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was staging a protest which is being attended by prominent leaders of the party along with their President Nawaz Sharif.

The police said that some protesters spotted the man and informed the police on suspicion. In response, the police intercepted him and took him into custody because he failed to produce his identity. Later, he was handed over to his family.— Staff Reporter

Man killed by elder brother

RAWALPINDI, Oct 12: A man was shot dead by his elder brother while his wife was thrashed over a land dispute in Karamabad (Westridge) in the wee hours of Wednesday, police said.

Malik Altaf Elahi, one of the cousins of the deceased told police that he was at home last night when he received a telephone call from his Nafees Akhtar that his elder brother Muhammad Zareen had a row with him.

He said, on receiving the call, he went to his cousin’s house and was informed by Nafees’s wife Fauzia that she was at home when the door bell rang. She said as her husband opened the door, he found his elder brother Zareen along with another unidentified person -- clad in black clothes -- standing outside.

She said: “Zareen shouted at me and punched my teeth out. Then he, along with the accomplice, opened fire on my husband killing him on the spot.” Later the alleged killers escaped from the scene.

Syed Nazim Abbas Shah Sub-Inspector who is leading the murder investigation revealed to Dawn that the deceased who had been working in Saudi Arabia had recently returned to Pakistan and owned a piece of land here. He said the alleged killer wanted to grab the land from his younger brother as the latter had no offspring. The investigation officer said efforts by the police were underway to arrest the alleged killers.— Staff Reporter

ATTOCK, Oct 12: Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Attock chapter expressed concern over poor law and order situation in the district and police failure to check increasing incidents of kidnapping for ransom incidents.

PMA Attock chapter President Lt-Col (retired) Dr Aslam Marwat said this during a PMA general body meeting here on Tuesday. He warned if the police failed to trace the outlaws who attempted to kidnap medical specialist Lt-Col (retired) Muhammad Hayat, the doctors would take extreme step.

The PMA executive body meeting was convened to devise a strategy in the wake of the kidnapping attempt of Dr Hayat as such incident created unrest and insecurity among the doctors community.

Dr Marwat said that it was unfortunate that the police were still clueless about the unknown gang of kidnappers, who attempted to abduct Dr Hayat during traveling in Kala Chitta area of Basal police station some days back. —Correspondent
