LARKANA, Nov 12: Known Sindhi short story writer and playwright Mohammed Safar alias Malik Agani and his son, Tanveer, were shot dead and their six relatives were injured by some assailants in the Agani village, some 13km off here, on Tuesday.

Two of the injured were said to be in a serious condition.

The incident was said to be the outcome of an old enmity, the Mahota police said.

The assailants showered bullets on Malik Agani when he was at his guava orchard near his house. He died on the spot.

On hearing the shots, Malik’s son, Tanveer, who was around 27, rushed to the site, where he also came under fire and was killed.

Then the assailants came to the village, took positions on the rooftop of some houses and sprayed bullets on the house of Malik and those of his relatives, injuring the six persons.

The assailant fled after the incident.

Those injured were identified as Sabir, son of Mehar Khan; Mehnaz, 17, daughter of Darya Khan; Amir Hussain, son of Darya Khan; Nazim, son of Mohabbat; and Raza Ali, son of Mehboob Ali.

They were admitted to the CMCH here, where condition of Sabir and Mehnaz was stated to be serious.

Till the filing of this report no FIR was registered.

However, the Mahota police have picked up four men, Rafiq, Gulshan, Shaman Ali and Misri Khan, for interrogation.

The bodies were handed over to the relatives of the deceased after autopsy.

The situation in the Agani village grew tense after the incident, villagers said.

The attackers had vacated their houses and moved to some undisclosed place, sources said.

According to sources, the motive behind the double-murder was a 20-year-old enmity, in which two men men, Haji Jummo and Hussain Agani, were killed.

The situation again grew tense two months back when some thieves broke into the house of Malik and a case was registered against some members of the Agani clan.
