RAWALPINDI, Oct 4: Former district police officer (DPO) Sialkot Waqar Ahmad Chohan, whose three-year-imprisonment was suspended by a division bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday, was released on bail from Adiala Jail on Tuesday night, official sources said.

Last month, Anti-Terrorist Court (ATC), Gujranwala sentenced former DPO Sialkot to three-year imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs50,000 in lynching case of two brothers, Mughees and Muneeb. Later he was shifted to Adiala Jail. Waqar Chohan was charged with criminal negligence which resulted in the lynching of two brothers. He had field a petition in the LHC challenging his sentence and pleaded that he was not present on the scene at the time of the incident and he was implicated in the case with mlala fide intentions. The law officer opposed his plea saying that he was the main culprit and the two brothers were killed due to his negligence.

However, the LHC division bench accepted Chohan's petition and granted him bail after suspending his sentence.— Staff Reporter
