KARACHI, Oct 4: India was compelled to drop the proposed 6-Red international snooker event, slated later this year, and play host to the International Billiards and Snooker Federation (IBSF) world mens snooker championship at Banglore from Nov 27 to Dec 3, an official of the Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA) quoting the world body said on Tuesday.

He cited prolonged crises in some parts of Middle East as the reason behind shifting the annual IBSF spectacle from Bahrain to India at the eleventh hour.

“This time masters (40 plus) and women events will not be part of the championship and it will be restricted to men only, he added.

The duration of the event, he said, has been reduced to six days instead of two weeks.

He said last date for submission of entries is Nov 10.

He disclosed that the annual general meeting of the IBSF will be held on the sidelines of world championship on Dec 1.

Meanwhile, the third national ranking snooker tournament of the annual calendar takes place in the city from Oct 23 to 29, president PBSA, Alamgir Sheikh said.

He said the player who attains top national ranking after the event will earn a ticket for Banglore. The second player for the Indian trip will be nominated by the PBSA.
