MULTAN, Sept 30: Former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi plans to meet political leaders from opposition parties to build pressure on the government to implement the declaration adopted at Thursday’s multi-party conference.

“For the removal of obstacles” in the way of the implementation of MPC recommendations, Qureshi said in a statement on Friday he had decided to contact PML-N President Nawaz Sharif, Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf Chairman Imran Khan, JUI chief Maulana Fazalur Rehman and Jamaat-i-Islami amir Syed Munawar Hasan. He said the unanimous declaration issued after the multi-party conference could not be result-oriented until the recommendations formulated by parliamentary committee were taken seriously.

Commenting over the MPC, he said the conference “should be considered as a start of the betterment of the situation as more steps will be required to protect the interests of Pakistan and defuse tension with the US.” He said that long term results could be achieved and peace could be maintained in the region by acting upon on the recommendations of the parliamentary committee.
