LAHORE, Sept 29: An official of Allama Iqbal Town (AIT) and a boy sustained injuries here on Thursday after more than two dozen people attacked a team that visited an outhouse in a bid to shift cattle out of the city.

Reports said a team, led by town enforcement inspector Ashfaq Ahmad Bhatti, visited Jhugian Nagar at Sabzazar in Nanawnkot police precincts and asked Zaheer Ahmad Nagra to hand over his cattle in order to shift the animals out of the city under the campaign launched by the City District Government of Lahore.

As Nagra refused to do so the team forcibly tried to get the animals that led to a scuffle between both the parties. Meanwhile, Nagra and some of his men opened fire on the team, injuring inspector Bhatti and a passer-by boy. After the firing, the accused managed their escape. The locals shifted the injured to hospital.

“We have registered a case under section 353, 7-ATA, 148 and 149 against four people -- Zaheer Nagra, Amanat, Falak Sher and Abbas -- and 18 unidentified accomplices. We have nabbed Amanat and some unknown accomplices and will arrest the rest of them who are at large,” Iqbal Town SP Muntazir Mehdi told this reporter.

AIT municipal administrator Shahid Hassan Kaliani said a police team and some officials were already on the way to join the team in shifting the cattle. “But before they join the team, the incident took place,” he said, adding that the TMA would ensure shifting of all cattle/animals out of the city.
