KARACHI, Sept 22: The Crime Investigation Department (CID) of the Sindh police on Thursday claimed to have arrested a political activist in Korangi.

The political activist was allegedly wanted in the Chakra Goth attack case, says a CID statement.

It says that the CID team led by SSP Fayyaz Khan arrested suspect Sikander alias Ali after a brief shootout during a Korangi raid.

“The police also seized arms from the possession of the suspect, who is member of a political party,” says the brief statement without disclosing the name of the political party.

“He was involved in last month’s Chakra Goth attack and was also nominated in the FIR (435/2011) registered by the Zaman Town police station.”

In another raid, the CID police claimed to have arrested a suspected assassin.

An official said suspect Kashif alias Darzi was arrested in the Liaquatabad area.

“The police seized three AK-47 assault rifles, two shotguns and as many hand-grenades from his possession,” said the official, adding that the suspect was involved in targeted killings and associated with a political party.
