KARACHI, Sept 18: The 10th Lux Style Awards was staged at the Expo Centre late Saturday night with a classic Red Carpet affair preceding the awards ceremony that began later than the slated time. The Four-Man Show cast more recently known for their escapades and antics on Banana News Network on air from a private channel opened the show with their classic witty and cutting remarks on those comprising Pakistan's fashion industry and a visual clip of a make-believe President Zardari addressing the nation.
Mahira of the recently released Shoaib Mansoor film Bol fame introduced a show reel highlighting memorable moments from the previous nine awards ceremonies and comments by TV stars such as Humayun Saeed, fashion designer Deepak Perwani and others.
A tribute to Pakistan's film industry in the form of the title song from Reema Khan's film, Love Mein Ghum, featured guest appearances by designers HSY, Kamiar Rokni, Ammar Belal, Amir Adnan, former model Aaminah Haq, male model M. Mubarak, stylist Saba Ansari and others. Saleem Sheikh and Mathira gave away the Best TV Actress (Satellite) LSA to Bushra Ansari for Dolly Ki Aayegi Baraat and the Best Actor trophy to Faisal Qureshi for Meri Zaat Zarra-i-Benishaan. Film and TV actor-director Javed Shaikh presented the Best TV writer award to Humaira Arshad. The Best TV Serial (Satellite) award went to Bol Meri Machlee.
Deepak Perwani and fashion model Ayyan gave away the Best Stylish Sportsperson LSA to tennis star Aisam-ul-Haq. This was followed by a fashion presentation featuring a collection titled Crimson by Ali Xeeshan with a performance by the band Siege. The fashion show had a highly improvised theme with the models sporting an uber-exotic look with stockings pulled over their heads and their eye make-up highlighted by feathers, a look conceived by hair and make-up artist Saba Ansari and her team at Sabs Salon. The segment featured Meera as the showstopper in a heavily worked ash-grey sari.
VJ Anoshay announced the best dressed celebrities on the Bonanza-sponsored Red Carpet and the awards went to Amina Ilyas (outfit by Fahd Hussain) and HSY who wore his own creation. Styling guru Khawar Riaz and Saba Ansari gave away the Best Female Model LSA for 2011 to Rabia Butt while HSY gave the trophy for Best Male Model to Iffi.
A fashion presentation featuring designs by Sana Safinaz with the band Symth in performance gave way to the category of Best Emerging Talent being announced by model Nooray and Kamiar Rokni and received by accessory designer Maheen Hussain. Aaminah Haq and Ammar Belal gave the LSA for Best Hair and Make-up to stylist Nabila. Supermodel Nadia Hussain and model-actor Ahsan Khan handed over the trophy of Best Fashion Photographer to Rizwan-ul-Haq. Tapu Javeri and Maheen Karim presented the Achievement in Fashion Design (Pret) award to designer Shamoon Sultan of Khaadi Khaas. The LSA for Achievement in Fashion Design (Luxury Pret) was Shamaeel Ansari's for the taking. Amir Adnan and Feeha Jamshed of TJs gave the Achievement in Fashion Design (Lawn) award to the deserving Sana Safinaz while the Best Retail Brand went to Khaadi.
Aisam-ul-Haq and Freiha Altaf presented the LSA for Best Menswear to designer Ismail Farid. At this moment in the ceremony, scholarships to four deserving fashion students were announced by Sana Safinaz and the girls were handed over their certificates. The LSA for Lifetime Achievement went to Samina Ibrahim.
A touching moment arrived with Reema and Mustafa Butt inviting Imran Aslam and Sahira Kazmi on stage to pay a rich tribute to the late comedian-actor-compere Moin Akhtar via a show reel.
Shahood Alvi and Bushra Ansari gave the Best TV Actress and Actor (Terrestrial) awards to Sania Saeed and Javaid Sheikh, respectively. Film-TV actor and comedian Afzal Khan aka Rambo and Sahiba handed the Best TV Serial (Terrestrial) award to Anokha Ladla's Saleem Sheikh. Film-TV actor/producer Humayun Saeed and TV morning show host and actress Savera Nadeem gave away the LSA for Best TV Director (all channels) to Aisam Hussain of Hum TV. The Lux Style Beauty Icon award went to Reema.
The fashion presentation featuring bridal and groom wear by Deepak Perwani was highlighted by qawwali by the duo of Rizwan-Moazzam. Singing legend Mehnaz, flanked by Fariha Pervaiz and Sanam Marvi on either side, was given a tribute by the song and dance sequence featuring a medley of her memorable hits from yesteryear films, such as Mera Tu, Mujhe Dil Se, Tere Mera Pyar Ka Charcha, Wada Karo Saajna and Kalya Na Jana with choreography by Pappu Samrat and performed by Ahsan Khan, Meera and Mathira among others.
In the music category, the most notable LSA was given to Rohail Hyatt as the producer of Coke Studio.
