KOHAT, Sept 13: The inspector of intelligence bureau who was 'kidnapped' by unknown people from the posh KDA town reached his home here safely after four days on Tuesday, sources said.

They said that inspector Wali Khan was deputed in Hangu and had disappeared from the KDA Town under mysterious circumstances on Friday last. They said that the official's family and department had registered a report with the KDA police station on the next day when he did not return till late on Friday night after leaving home at 4pm.

When contacted, police said that the reason behind his disappearance could not be ascertained, as details of the case were being kept secret by the inspector's department.

However, the police said that they had released the suspects arrested during operations for the official's recovery after he reached his home.

Meanwhile, residents have criticised police for their failure to control crime incidents despite establishing security posts around the city. They said that while the police had been focusing on nabbing militants they had been unable to control street crimes.

Quoting incidents of the past one month, they said that thieves took away Rs100,000 and gold jewellery from the house of a professor of a local college located in a well-guarded area of the city.

Similarly unknown thieves took away 40 tolas of gold from a house in the same area and no progress had been made in the case, they said.

The residents said that instead of properly investigating the cases and arresting the criminals the police had been asking the victims that their family members might be involved in these cases.

In Ramazan, a retired colonel was kidnapped from Defence Colony and shot dead along with a policeman.

CLERIC ARRESTED:

The police have arrested a cleric from Dhoda village here for allegedly delivering controversial sermons by propagating wrong interpretation of the holy Quran and maligning a certain school of thought.

Officials said that the local ulema had been complaining against one Maulana Ishaq for starting a campaign against Hanafia school of thought and wrongly interpreting verses of the holy Quran during sermons at a mosque.

They said that intelligence reports had also confirmed Mr Ishaq's activities and ulema had informed the district coordination officer about his alleged hate campaign against certain ulema.

The officials said that the administration arrested him under 5 MPO for causing unrest in the society and maligning the religion. However, they said a case was yet to be registered against him.
