SUKKUR, Sept 6: Police claimed to have arrested five dacoits and other criminals who had killed a policeman in an attack on a police picket and taken away official arms and ammunition.

They were also accused of killing an army man.

Senior Superintendent of Police Sukkur Saqib Ismail Memon in his first press conference on Monday after taking over the charge of SSP Sukkur told reporters that police had conducted raids and arrested accused Aijaz alias Ajoo Kalhoro and Fareed Jagirani and seized two TT Pistols, nine rounds and a snatched motorcycle from them.

He said the accused were also wanted to the police in killing of army personnel Muhammad Asif Nadeem who killed on July 25, 2011, in Sangi during snatching of the motorcycle.

He said that accused Aijaz alias Ajoo Kalhoro, who was carrying head money of Rs100,000, was a hardened criminal. He was wanted to police in more than 20 cases of heinous crimes.

Accused Fareed Jagirani was wanted to Sukkur police in more than six cases of heinous crimes, including killings and dacoities.

In another raid, police had arrested three criminals, including Abdul Jabbar Korai, Altaf Korai and Mithal Korai and recovered two TT pistols, a shotgun and snatched police arms from them.

They had attacked a police picket set up at Koro Khan Korai on the National Highway and killed a police constable, Muhammad Ali Bullo, and taken away two G3 Rifles.

He said that police pickets had been set up in Sukkur at shopping and trade centres during Ramazan, which helped in controlling crime.
