PESHAWAR, Aug 16: The body of a missing man acquitted by the Lahore High Court in four terrorism related cases last year was received by his relatives here on Tuesday after failing to persuade the concerned officials to conduct the autopsy.

Mohammad Amir of Rawalpindi died in mysterious circumstance at the Lady Reading Hospital on Monday. He was picked up allegedly by the intelligence agencies along with 10 others soon after being released from Adiyala Jail, Rawalpindi in May last year.

Mohammad Bilal, brother of the deceased, told Dawn that he tried the whole day to convince the concerned officials to carry out postmortem of the body but none of them responded positively.

“There are visible signs of torture and bullet wounds on the body of my brother and I am sure that he did not die a natural death,” he claimed and added that the body bore two openings at the back and a wide wound on a leg which had been covered with a bandage.

He said that his brother weighed about 100kg but his body was not more than 40kg, which meant that he had been tortured to death. “It seems that my brother breathed his last 10 days ago but his body was now being given to me,” he said.

Mr Bilal said that the reports submitted to the court were enough proof that a powerful secret agency was involved in the case.

He thanked the officials of Lady Reading Hospital for extending help for keeping the body in the cold storage for a night, adding that he could not express his views but would always say that his brother's death was not natural and he would raise voice for knowing the cause of his death.
