ISLAMABAD, Aug 15: As Additional Director General of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Capt (retd) Zafar Ahmed Qureshi took the charge of his office on Monday to resume probe into the National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) scam, the Supreme Court decided to take up the matter relating to his assumption of charge on Tuesday.

The Supreme Court has summoned Attorney General Maulvi Anwarul Haq, FIA Director General Tehseen Anwar Shah, Mr Qureshi himself and the secretary of interior.

All of them will appear on Tuesday before a three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Amir Hani Muslim and Justice Ghulam Rabbani.

The officer was reportedly stopped from assuming the charge on Saturday in Lahore when security officials barred him from entering the FIA building after a hoax bomb call.

On Aug 8, the court had quashed the July 4 suspension order of Mr Qureshi and directed him to consider himself on duty and retake the charge of investigation into the scam.

Mr Qureshi was suspended by the government, in an apparent move to keep him out of the investigation into the politically-explosive multi-billion rupees NICL scam.

The scandal has become an embarrassment for the government because of the alleged involvement of Chaudhry Moonis Elahi, son of Punjab's former chief minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi whose party is an important partner in the ruling coalition.
