LAHORE, Aug 8: Dacoits looted cash and valuables worth around Rs1.7 million from the house of an industrialist in H-Block of Johar Town on Monday.

A gang of eight dacoits stormed Javed Sandhu's residence at Iftar, took the family at gunpoint, looted Rs1.1m in cash, 10 tola gold ornaments and other valuables and fled.

The police registered a case.

BODY: A 22-year-old man was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a pond near Shahpur Kanjaran on Monday.

The Chuhng police said locals spotted the body of a man identified as Rehan, alias Sher Alam, of Kala Khitai Road, Shahdara, floating in the pond.

According to the police, Rehan fell into the pond and apparently drowned after he ran away to save his life from the firing of a rival group.

Members of a group led by Shaku, who used to lift sand/mud form their fields for construction projects, quarreled with members of Sohail group, who allegedly broke a water channel to get water for their lands a couple of days ago. The exchange of words led to exchange of fire between the two sides. Rehan, who was a member of Sohail group, apparently in a bid to avoid being shot at, ran away but fell in the pond.

The police said a case was earlier registered on the complaint of Shaku group against Sohail group and after the discovery of the body, a cross FIR had been lodged against Shaku group.

DIES: A 15-year-old girl died at a hospital a few hours after she received a bullet wound at her home in Sitara Colony of Factory Area on Monday.

Quoting family, the police said Maryam was cleaning his father's pistol when it went off accidentally. The police, however, sent the body for an autopsy to ascertain exact cause of death.

ACCIDENT: A 50-year-old man was killed and another was injured when the motorcycle they were riding on was hit by a rickshaw near SNGPL offices on Guru Mangat Road in Gulberg on Monday.

The police said Muhammad Ashraf, of Mian Mir Colony, was going on a motorcycle when a rickshaw coming from opposite direction hit him, killing him on the spot.
