LAHORE, July 14: An additional district and sessions judge on Thursday issued notices to Lahore capital city police officer and Race Course station house officer on a habeas corpus petition for the recovery of Ms Zeba Khan alias Sapna Khan from alleged illegal custody of her husband, former Punjab chief minister Sardar Dost Muhammad Khosa.

Judge Malik Mobeen Ahmad directed the CCPO and the SHO to file a report by July 16.

Lawyer Azhar Siddique filed the petition on the basis of a news item published in an Urdu daily. The petitioner said the news was not contradicted, therefore, could be used as evidence.

The petitioner said Ms Sapna was beaten up by Mr. Khosa and his friends outside his GOR-I residence.

He said they also snatched her minor daughter and shifted her to some unknown place. He said police was approached to take action but to no avail.

Advocate Siddique said whether there was any family dispute or not, the life and liberty of every citizen had to be protected, and asked the court to order police to recover Ms. Sapna along with her daughter and produce them before the court.

He also prayed that after recovery and production of the alleged detainee before the court, police be directed to register a case against persons involved in her abduction.

Earlier, Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed of the Lahore High Court took up the same petition and directed the petitioner to approach sessions court first for relief.

Kiln workers freed: The Lahore High Court on Thursday set at liberty 15 kiln workers, including women and children, after getting them recovered from illegal detention of a kiln owner of Gujranwala.

Saifullah filed a habeas corpus petition and submitted that kiln owner Aslam illegally detained his 15 relatives and had been taking forced labour from them. He alleged that the detainees were being tortured and the women sexually harassed by the kiln owner.

The court deputed a bailiff who recovered the detainees and produced them in the court.

The court released all of them and observed that they could approach an appropriate forum to initiate a legal action against the kiln owner.

Judges transferred: The Lahore High Court chief justice on Thursday transferred and posted two additional district and sessions judges and four civil judges-cum-judicial magistrates.

AD&SJ Amir Saleem Rana has been transferred from Zafarwal to Narowal and Shaukat Mahmood from Narowal to Muzaffargarh.

Civil judge Muhammad Zakariya has been transferred from Daska to Shakargarh, Umar Sharif Sheikh from Shakargarh to Narowal, Muzammil Sipra from Fort Abbas to Dunyapur and Muhammad Asif from Dunyapur to Fort Abbas.
