KARACHI, Oct 31: The city government is endeavouring to turn Karachi into a hub of information technology, said the Nazim of the city government, Naimatullah Khan, while inaugurating a computer lab at City College in Federal B-Area on Thursday.

He pointed out that so far computer labs had been set up in 90 colleges at Karachi and information technology education had begun there.

Mr Khan said Pakistan lags behind in the field of computer when compared with many other countries.

He said since the inception of the city government in Karachi quite a headway had been made in this field.

The Nazim was optimistic that as a result of the efforts being made by the city government Karachi would emerge as the biggest centre of IT in the country.

He said work on the Island IT City would begin soon. Five IT parks would be set up in Karachi.

Mr Khan urged the private sector to come forward and contribute its bit towards this end as well.

He said the city government had allocated a big chunk of its budget for education.—APP
