London: Pakistan's paceman Wahab Riaz will now play for the English county Kent until the end of August after the decision to cancel the Sri Lanka premeir league was announced.
The left-arm fast bowler has been an impressive performer for Kent, particularly in the Twenty20 format where he has bagged 14 wickets at an average of 19.42, which includes a hat-trick and a maiden five-wicket haul for any Kent player against Gloucestershire.
The 26-year-old was due to miss a crucial part of the season amidst his commitments to the Sri Lanka premier league but the tournament was officially cancelled over the weekend.
The announcement means Riaz would be available to play for Kent until he leaves for Pakistan’s tour of Zimbabwe on August 20.
Riaz’s availability is a major boost to Kent who were set to miss him for two County Championship games & three Clydesdale Bank 40 fixtures.
Meanwhile, Paul Farbrace, Kents director of cricket, was delighted about the decision.
"The good thing was we had Charl (Langleveldt) lined up if Wahab went, so that would have worked okay.
"(But) he will stay now and play and that’s good for him as well because he is keen to learn.
"It will also be good for us to have him in side as he is obviously an explosive cricketer," he added.
