MULTAN, Oct 29: The All Pakistan Bedsheets and Upholstery Manufacturers Association (Apbuma) has urged the PIA management to restore Boeing flights from the local airport.

In a press statement, the association chairman claimed that a population of 5m people in and around Multan depended entirely on the Multan airport for air travel besides the area had the distinction of being the agricultural heartland of the country.

But the management of the national flag-carrier had been treating the area step-motherly by operating Fokar planes between Multan and the federal capital, making the air journey for the Multanis an unpleasant experience. He said the business community for which the time was money was the worst sufferer.

TETNUS: As many as 158,418 women, between 15 and 45 years, will be given anti-tetnus vaccine in the district from Oct 31 to Nov 5.

Briefing local journalists, Multan EDO (health) Dr Iqbal Muhammad told that a special campaign was being launched to defeat the lethal disease with the collaboration of the Health Ministry, World Health Organisation (WHO), Unicef, the government of Japan and Save the Children Organization.

The anti-tetnus campaign would cover some 31 union councils of the district in its second phase being kicked off from Oct 31. The EDO said that some 681 teams of lady health workers had been constituted to carry out the task.

Coordinator of the national family planning programme Dr Saddiq Saqib was also present on the occasion.

TIMBER THIEVES: The local Forest department officials apprehended as many as 261 thieves during the last month involved in wood stealing.

The Multan zone chief of the forest department, Dr Muhammad Jehangir Ghauri, told a meeting here on Tuesday the forest department had chalked out a comprehensive strategy to combat the ‘timer mafia’.
