QUETTA, June 30: The Balochistan High Court has summoned a former district coordination officer of Dera Bugti and an imam, who had led the funeral prayer of Nawab Akbar Bugti, and sought a report in the murder case.

Hearing a petition filed by Nawab Bugti’s son Nawabzada Jamil Akbar Bugti, a division bench comprising acting Chief Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel and Justice Hashim Khan Kakar observed that the government was not taking interest in the case.

It warned that the court would issue an order if the report was not submitted.

Expressing dissatisfaction over the progress made in the case so far, the court told Additional Advocate General Nasrullah Achakzai that the government had not established whether Nawab Bugti had died despite the fact that dozens of people had been killed and property worth millions of rupees destroyed in riots after the killing.

It ordered that former DCO Abdul Samad Lasi and local mosque’s Imam Maulvi Maulock should be presented in the next hearing.

The AAG presented a police report that quoted the Imam as having said that he had led the funeral prayer under pressure from the former DCO without seeing the face of Nawab Bugti in the coffin.

He said Mr Lasi had been terminated from government service.

The court told the state counsel that a strict action would be taken if the former DCO was found drawing salary from the government.

Deputy Attorney General Malik Sikandar Khan filed a report on behalf of the interior ministry stating that the federal government would take action for extradition of the accused nominated in the FIR after receiving a request from the provincial government.

The court asked the additional advocate general to get issued from the magistrate concerned warrants for the arrest of those nominated in the case.

Advocates Shakeel Ahmed Hadi and Sohail Rajput represented the petitioner.

The hearing was adjourned till the last week of July.
