Sher-e-Punjab – the ultimate wrestler - Pakistan

The Sher-e-Punjab dangal was held on June 26, 2011 in Lahore. Held in the memory of wrestling greats Bholu Pehlwan and Gama Pehlwan, the event was a serious effort that aimed at bringing back traditional sports, including Kushti, to the fore.

Amidst loud music, cheers and boos and lots of encouragement, the wrestlers battled it out in a no holds barred manner. Shahid Khoyaywala and Nadir Daar made it to the final round. Khoyaywala successfully defended his title and emerged as the winner. – Text and photos by M. Rizwan Buttar, a traveler and photographer.

I think all the Indigenous Sports of Pakistan should be promoted apart from Cricket. Also In my View In Sports like Kabbadi they should bring some more innovation like they could upgrading the Kabbadi to the fights like in UFC ( Ultimate FIghting Championships) and in Other Professional and Commercial Wrestling avenues all over the world and i am sure they will then get more recognition.

A very nice attempt to promote the culture which is long forgotten.. i believe activities like this and than to capture them in such a nice way like Mr. Rizwan did will make photographers to capture moments like these and when the beauty of events like these will come on such sites ppl will get attracted and will come to see the culture ...the culture which once made the ppl from other countries to visit Pakistan .. and i believe its not far now that we will get back what is ours and Pakistan once again will become the place for visitors... Nice effort and i hope you will keep promoting activities like these in future as i will really look forward for this..

Agree. Just wanted to add that Kabbadi can be transformed into Rugby by giving them a ball and make them run a bit more...
