DERA GHAZI KHAN, June 23: A vociferous public protest against the Multan Electric Power Company led to a clash between consumers and officials here on Thursday.

A number of people assembled in front of Mepco complex in Dera Ghazi Khan and chanted slogans against the authorities. They also pelted the complex building with stones.

Meanwhile, assistant lineman Safdar Qaisrani snatched gun from one of the guards and warned the protestors against continuing with the protest. Some protesters, however, overpowered the official who tried to do aerial firing.

A Civil Lines police team arrested three of the protesters and registered a case against them on the charge of damaging government property.

Dera Ghazi Khan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Press Club and traders’ association condemned alleged hooliganism by Mepco officials as well as arrest of youngsters.
