ISLAMABAD: Former Asian Junior gold medalist Arshad Iqbal Burki will participate in the forthcoming Milad Open 2011 to be held in Iran from July 18-20 and Kuwait Squash Federation Tournament-2011 to be played in South Surrah, Kuwait from July 22-25.
Burki, who has gone down to 211 in the world ranking from 52, told APP on Monday that he has fully recovered from his hamstring injuries which occurred while playing in last year’s US circuit.
“Now I am feeling better and I'm training very hard to play big tournaments in order to improve my world ranking”.
“The target is to pick up the ranking points that will help me plan my future in the sport and will also improve my world ranking. The higher your ranking, the more you can set your own goals and pick the tournaments,” Burki said.
He said that he is practicing very hard and has set a training program which is divided in two sessions one in the morning and the other in the evening.
“I am looking forward to following events. After playing in these tournaments I will go to the US in September to play five tournaments in the US Circuit from September 15 and will stay there till November.”
About the Kuwait Open, he said, world no. 94 M Marwan El Shorbagy of Egypt is the top seed of the event while he is part of the main round along with two other Pakistanis comprising world no. 118 Waqar Mehmood and world no. 141 Waqas Mehmood.
“I am hopeful that my hard work and dedication will pay off,” he said.
