Cases registered

RAWALPINDI, June 18: The Westridge Police on Saturday registered cases against a dozen known and 1,000 unknown water and power rioters for destroying check posts and torching police mobile van at Chur Chowk and Pirwadhai Mor on Friday.

The police registered cases under section 147, 149, 427, 440, 379, 341, 186, 353, 436, 382, 341, 427 and 436.

Hundreds of local residents turned violent on Friday when police tried to stop them from holding protest against loadsheeding in the areas of Naseerabad, Meharabad and Chuher Chowk.

As a result, the enraged mob attacked police check post, pelted public, private and police mobiles with stone. They also blocked Peshawar Road for eight hours. — A Reporter

Eight suspects held

ISLAMABAD, June 18: The capital police on Saturday arrested eight suspects during search operation in various areas.

The search operation was carried out in workshops, parking lots, markets, under construction buildings and residential areas. According to police, the operations will continue in sensitive areas.

Meanwhile, the Sabzi Mandi police intercepted a suspect and recovered hashish weighing 514gms from him. The Shahzad Town police during a search of a suspect recovered heroin weighing 125gms. — Staff Reporter

Body found

TAXILA, June 18: Body of a man was found on GT road in Wah Cantonment police area on Saturday.

Police said that some passersby spotted a body of a man in his 50s lying near a butcher’s shop and informed the police. Police shifted body to THQ hospital for autopsy. —Correspondent

Labourer killed on road

CHAKWAL, June 18: A labourer was killed in a road accident here on Saturday.

Sources said that Mohammad Waheed, resident of Mulhal Mughlan village along with two other labourers was going to load bricks when the trolley on which they were riding overturned on Jhelum Road. Resultantly, Mohammad Waheed died on the spot while two other labourers sustained injuries. — Correspondent

Six robbers arrested

TAXILA, June 18: Police on Saturday claimed that it had arrested six robbers.

Talking to newsmen here, Sub divisional police officer DSP Raja Taifoor Akhter has said that acting on a tip off, a police party raided a secret den and arrested Nazir Ahmed, Qammar Abbass, Mohammad Ishfaq, Mohammad Shahfeeq, Taswar Mehmood and Mohammad Saleem along with huge quantity of arms and ammunition used in a number of robberies and theft cases. — Correspondent
