MARDAN, Oct 26: The run-off election for the slot of acting Nazim of Mardan Tehsil Council will be held on Tuesday as the polls held for the post on Thursday ended in a draw.

Of the five contestants for the temporary position, two candidates polled equal number of votes and the election authorities decided to hold run-off election next week, officials said.

The seat had fallen vacant after the murder of Nazim Irsal Khan.

The five candidates contested were: Shaukat Khan, Wisal Khan, Rozina Johar, Ayaz Khan and Hazrat Umar. Wisal and Shaukat bagged 22 votes each, and Rozina Johar and Ayaz polled 13 votes each and Hazrat Umer received six votes. Three votes were rejected.

The Nazim of the council would be elected three months later.
