HYDERABAD, June 16: Sharjeel Khan smashed a century to help steer Hyderabad to a commanding position against Benazirabad on the second day of the PCB Inter-district Senior Cricket Tournament final (Hyderabad Region) at the Niaz Stadium here on Thursday.

Hyderabad totalled 417-8 declared in their first innings against Benazirabad in 70 overs as Sharjeel hit 138 studded with 19 boundaries and six sixes. Mohammad Qazzafi made 57, Mansoor Malik 55 and Mohammad Awais 55. Benazirabad’s Mohammad Amir claimed five wickets for 119.

After conceding a huge 228-run first-innings lead, Benazirabad scored 150-6 in their second innings by the end of the second day. Haris Khan scored 64, Asad Ali 26 and Sadiq Ali 25. Nasir Owais and Noman Ali took 3-38 and 2-26 respectively. The visitors need to add another 78 runs to avoid an innings defeat.

On the opening day of the match on Wednesday, Hyderabad had already taken control after dismissing Benazirabad for a paltry 189 off 57.5 overs in their first innings. Kashif Bhatti (42), Javed Ali (40) and Haris Khan (34) were the only notable scorers. Mir Ali Talpur claimed four wickets for 45 while Naeem-ur-Rehman secured three wickets for 50.

By the close Hyderabad had reached 166-1 off 32 overs.
