Pakistan's discarded test opener Yasir Hameed was handed some reprieve by the UK Press Complaint Commission in his case against tabloid News of the World (NOTW) after it was ordered that the paper remove from its website a video and a story linking the batsman to a spot-fixing scandal

In the video, Hameed was seen candidly discussing the fall-out from the Lord's spot-fixing scandal as well as an approach by a bookie in 2004.

Hameed, who was part of the Test side during the 2010 tour to England but hasn't played for Pakistan since, claimed he was trapped into giving the interview by the NOTW reporter who posed as a representative of a global airline wanting to talk sponsorship deals.

Hameed was summoned to the Pakistan High Commission and also by a PCB integrity committee after the video was released. He issued a statement later saying that the man, an Abid Khan, sent him threatening messages after the meeting when Hameed denied what had been attributed to him.

Hameed shot back with a formal complaint against the paper and his case centred on four points: inaccurate reporting, a breach of privacy, misrepresentation of character and harassment.

"I am very happy to have come out of this difficult situation," Hameed told ESPNcricinfo.

"My only aim now is to try and fight for my place back in the Pakistan side."
