ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Judo Federation (PJF) on Wednesday awarded cash awards worth over Rs. 4.7 million to the medalists of the 11th South Asian Games in an impressive ceremony held here at a local hotel.
In the 11th South Asian Games Pakistan judokas won three gold, three silver and one bronze medal. India won both the gold medals in the women's category, while the men's glory was shared equally between Pakistan and India with each winning three gold medals.
One million rupees each were given to gold winners - Tanveer Ahmed, Zahid Iqbal and Aiatullah, while Rs. 0.5 million each were given to Zafar Iqbal, Muhammad Karamat Butt and Fouzia Mumtaz. Rs. 2,50,000 were given to Humaira Ashiq, who clinched bronze medal. Speaking on the occasion, President PJF Rana Shujaat Ali said that Pakistan had great talent for judo and expressed the optimism that in future judokas would bring more laurels to the country.
“The federation has taken revolutionary steps for the uplift of the game and now we are on winning track,” he said. He said the recent achievements in the game were the result of PJF's efforts in the past three years.
