Transporters fined

PESHAWAR, May 12: Dozens of public transporters were heavily fined on Thursday for overcharging in Peshawar.

An official of the transport department said some 40 drivers of Ford Wagons had been fined for charging from Rs2 to Rs5 extra from passengers on the route from general bus stand to Karkhano Market.

The action, he said, had been taken following complaints from passengers, adding, the main sufferers were employees of different government and private organisations.

Secretary, Regional Transport Authority, Naseem Bacha, when contacted, said each vehicle had been fined Rs600 for overcharging and accommodating male passengers in the female compartments. —Bureau Report

Students’ responsibility

PESHAWAR, May 12: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Barrister Masood Kausar has advised the students to concentrate on their studies to achieve their goals. This he said while talking to a group of the final year students of a local law college, which called on him at Governor’s House on Thursday.

Mr Kausar said the field of law was comprehensive and vast subject, which added varieties of learning and specialisation and enhanced the scope of work for practitioners.

Houses for flood-hit

NOWSHERA, May 12: Al-Khidmat Foundation on Thursday handed over keys of 50 newly-completed houses to flood stricken people of Pir Sabaq village of Nowshera. The village was among hundreds of villages badly affected by the last year’s floods.

Foundation’s central president Naimatullah told journalists on the occasion the organisation would continue supporting the calamity hit people. He said thousands of homes had been constructed for the people who lost their shelters to natural calamities. —Correspondent

PPP-PML-Q alliance

PESHAWAR, May 12: PML-N General Secretary Iqbal Zafar Jhagra has alleged the alliance between PPP and PML-Q is aimed at plundering the national wealth.

In a statement on Thursday, he said Munis Ilahi was facing corruption charges and his father Pervez Elahi was trying to get him released. He described the alliance a strange one as according to him workers of both the parties had rejected the new power sharing.

Mr Jhagra said the Q leaders had no sympathy with the public and wanted to serve their own interests. Mr Jhagra said the rulers had failed to devise a concrete plan to solve problems of price hike, unemployment, lawlessness, which were giving to unrest among the masses.—Bureau Report
