KARACHI, May 9: The Sindh government on Monday ordered the detention of Aamir Khan, chief of his own MQM-Haqiqi faction, under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) ordinance citing ‘risk to the city’s law and order’ due to his release.

“The MPO was issued by the home department following requests from the quarters concerned and security administration of the province,” said a senior official.

“He has been detained for 30 more days inside the central prison. The message has also been conveyed to his party.”

The MQM-H, however, did not sound convinced about the plea taken by the provincial government. The party leaders vowed to challenge the provincial government before the Sindh High Court.

“We will definitely file a petition in the SHC against this MPO order,” said Feroze Haider, a senior MQM-H leader. “We were already sceptical and when we reached the central prison after all legal formalities, the jail authorities told us about the fresh orders.”
