LAHORE, May 4: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday set aside a Lahore Development Authority notification cancelling property ownership/title of several residents of Model Town Extension.

Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed issued this order while disposing of petitions of the residents and directed the LDA director of land development-II to hear the petitioners on May 14 and decide the matter.

Nusrat Naseem, Tariq Javed, Anjum Nazir, Atif Iqbal and Muhammad Tauheed are among the petitioners, who stated that being subsequent buyers they purchased plots in Model Town Extension, which the LDA established in 1996.

They said all transactions of property purchase were on record with the department concerned and all dues were deposited in the name of LDA’s director of estate management.

They said the National Accountability Bureau initiated an inquiry against LDA officers for their alleged irregularities in allotment of plots in Model Town Extension. The LDA cancelled titles/ownerships of their properties and started dispossessing them without any notice or hearing. They prayed to the court to set aside the LDA notification and restrain it from taking any action against the properties.

DEFERRED: A Lahore High Court division bench on Wednesday fixed May 11 to decide an application seeking transfer of a petition and registration of an FIR against former president Pervez Musharraf, Interior Minister Rehman Malik, former chief minister Pervaiz Elahi, Babar Awan and others in the Benazir murder case from the Rawalpindi bench to the principal seat in Lahore.

Chaudhry Muhammad Aslam, protocol officer of Ms Bhutto, filed this application and submitted that authorities in Islamabad could influence the judges hearing his petition at the Rawalpindi bench of the Lahore High Court.

PCS OFFICERS: An additional district and sessions judge on Wednesday disposed of a petition filed by the PCS Officers Association and directed the Islampura SHO to act in accordance with the law on association’s application seeking registration of an FIR against the Punjab chief secretary, home secretary and others.

The association pleaded for registration of a case against the respondents for their alleged role in the manhandling and arrest of PCS officers during a protest at the Punjab Civil Secretariat against alleged irregularities in promotion and posting of PCS officers.
