JI protest against police inaction

SARGODHA, Oct 18: The Jamaat-i-Islami will stage a sit-in in front of the SSP office here in protest against the police failure to arrest the nominated accused.

It is learnt that MNA-elect Hafiz Salman Butt will lead the sit-in demonstration on Saturday.

The JI alleged that former MNA and Sargodha JI’s Naib Amir Haji Javed Iqbal Cheema was thrashed by ex-MPA Chaudhry Farrukh Javed Ghumman, his sons and their supporters on the polling day.

On the other hand, Chaudhry Ghumman blamed that 36 activists of the JI beat up his supporters and also resorted to aerial firing to scare them away.

Saddar police have registered cases against both the parties under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Meanwhile, local JI leaders have turned down the appeal of SSP Zafar Iqbal Qureshi to give up their sit-in call, saying the situation is directly being controlled by high-ups of the party. — Correspondent
