KARACHI, April 28: A judicial magistrate on Thursday sentenced a man to a two years in prison in a bounced cheques case. The court found Imran Sattar guilty of dishonestly issuing cheques to the complainant for the repayment of his money in 2007.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs10,000, and in case of nonpayment, the convict would have to undergo an additional two-month imprisonment.

According to the prosecution, the accused borrowed money from the complainant in February 2007. Later, the lender sought return of his money and the accused gave cheques for the amount to the complainant but the cheques bounced.

A case (FIR 54/2007) was registered under Section 489-F (dishonestly issuing a cheque for repayment of loan etc) of the Pakistan Penal Code at the Preedy police station.

The accused had been on bail and was taken into custody in the court and sent to prison along with the conviction warrant to serve out the sentence.

Club blast suspect remanded The administrative judge of anti-terrorism courts in Karachi on Thursday remanded a suspect in police custody in the rummy club blast case till May 11.

The crime investigation department (CID) of police claimed to have arrested Mustafa Rehman Orakzai alias Commando near the Superhighway after a shootout on April 25.

The CID police produced the suspect in court and contended that during initial interrogations the suspect confessed to have assisted the man who planted a bomb in the rummy club. The investigators sought his remand for further interrogations.

The administrative judge of the ATCs in Karachi, Justice Maqbool Baqar of the Sindh High Court, remanded the suspect in CID police custody till May 11.

According to the prosecution, the bomb blast at the entrance of the rummy club in Ghaas Mandi on April 21 had left 22 people dead and many others injured.

The CID also claimed to have seized 20 kilos of explosives and illegal weapons found in the possession of the suspect.

A case was registered under Sections 302 (punishment for premeditated murder), 324 (attempted murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and Sections 4 and 5 of the Explosives Substance Act read with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act at the Napier police station.

It is worth noting that the suspect has already been in police custody on physical remand in four other cases pertaining to explosive material, illicit weapons and a police encounter.

Man convicted A magistrate on Thursday sentenced a man to two months in prison in a narcotics case after he entered a guilty plea.

Abdul Rasheed pleaded guilty of keeping 90 grams of hashish within the remit of the Baloch Colony police station in March.

The accused was produced in court and the magistrate sent him back to prison to serve out the remainder of his sentence.

The convict was booked under the Control of Narcotics Substance Act.
