KARACHI, April 20: A sessions court on Wednesday remanded two suspects in police custody till April 22 in a bank robbery case.

The suspects — Ali Kashif and Zubair — have been booked for allegedly taking away around Rs100 million from the lockers of a private bank.

The court remanded the suspects in police custody till April 22 and directed the police to send them to prison following the expiry of the remand without being produced them in court.

The police were told to conduct a medical examination of the suspects before sending them to prison. They court ordered the police to produce the medical reports in court.

Earlier, the police produced the suspects before a judicial magistrate and sought their physical remand. However, the magistrate remanded the suspects in judicial custody.

Thus, the investigation officer of the case filed an application before the district and session court stating that this was the suspects’ first remand and they might be handed over to the police for interrogations.

The court referred the matter to a sessions judge, who remanded them in police custody.

According to the prosecution, the suspect had visited a bank, where they also had their respective accounts, to check their lockers. However, somehow they managed to open the lockers of other customers and took away about Rs100 million.

A case was registered against them at the Ferozabad police station, it added.

Arrest warrant issued A judicial magistrate on Wednesday issued a warrant for the arrest of a policeman for not appearing in court to testify in a fraud case.

Mohammad Ali Shah has been charged with fraudulently issuing a cheque which was dishonoured.

The judicial magistrate (east) issued the non-bailable warrant against Assistant Sub-Inspector Iqbal Tanoli directing the investigation officer to arrest and produce him in court till April 22.

The policeman was a prosecution witness and despite repeated notices he did not appear in court to record his statement.

A case was registered against the accused under Section 487-F (dishonestly issuing a cheque for repayment of loan etc.) of the Pakistan Penal Code at the Ferozabad police station.
