ISLAMABAD: Maj-Gen Ashfaq Nadeem has been appointed Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of Pakistan Army, informed sources told Dawn on Friday.

He replaces Maj-Gen Javed Iqbal who has been promoted to the rank of Lt-Gen and assigned to take over as Adjutant General at General Headquarters (GHQ) after retirement of Lt-Gen Nadeem Taj on April 29.

In the first reshuffle in the army top brass since extension in the tenure of Army Chief, Lt-Gen Sardar Mehmood Ali has been appointed deputy chairman of the Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (Erra).

The position in Erra fell vacant after the appointment of its chief executive Lt-Gen Haroon Aslam as Corps Commander of Bahawalpur. He previously served as Director General of Joint Staff.

He has been replaced by newly-promoted Lt-Gen Mohammad Asif, who was General Officer Commanding of Sialkot.

Newly-promoted Lt-Gen Ahsan Mehmood has been appointed Engineer-in-Chief. Officiating charge of the post was with Maj-Gen Asif Ali.

The Director General of Logistics, Maj-Gen Abid Pervez, has also been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General. The sources said he would hold the position till his assignment to a new post.
