KARACHI, Oct 16: A suspected bandit was shot dead by a security guard in Joharabad police limits on Wednesday.

Police said two bandits on a motorcycle intercepted a Suzuki pick-up of a private distribution company and attempted to loot it near Al-Mohsin Imambargah in Block-16, Federal B Area. The security guard in the Suzuki resisted, after which the bandits fired at the Suzuki. The security guard returned fire, resulting in the death of a suspected robber, identified as Khizar Abbas, 29. His accomplice escaped.

SUICIDE: A man committed suicide at his home in Nazimabad.

Police said Ayaz Khan, 40, hanged himself in utter frustration after his wife died during the delivery of a child. Ayaz, resident of Natal Colony in Nazimabad, took his wife to a hospital on Tuesday night for the expected child’s delivery. During the process, the condition of his wife deteriorated and she could not survive. The child died as well. Ayaz became dejected and hanged himself after her burial.

DIES: A man drowned in the underground water tank of his house in Saeedabad.

Police said Jalilur Rehman turned mentally sick after his first wife died and second parted ways with him. When his four sons awoke in the morning, they found their father drowned in the underground tank.

Police were of the view that it could be a murder, as a man could not commit suicide by jumping into an underground water tank. The matter would be clear after a thorough investigation, the police said.

CARJACKING: At least 28 vehicles — nine cars and 19 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in different parts of the metropolis on Wednesday.

Five cars were hijacked and four others were stolen in various localities including North Nazimabad, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Azizabad and Gulistan-i-Jauhar.

Seven motorcycles were taken away at gunpoint and 12 others were stolen in various areas including Arambagh, Model Colony, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, Joharabad, Azizabad, Eidgah, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Kalri and Ferozabad.

Police claimed to have recovered three stolen cars (JM-8697, S-7908, D-6775), and five motorbikes (KCT-8420, KCI-5157, DU-9876, KCO-510, and KAV-7993).
