KARACHI, April 15: The NED University of Engineering & Technology (NED-UET) successfully defended their title to clinch the 9th AKU Inter-University Football Tournament at the AKU Football Ground here on Friday. NED-UET beat Balochistan University of Information Technology Engineering & Management Sciences (BUITEMS) 3-2 on penalty kicks when the score remained 0-0 at the end of regulation time and the 15 minutes of extra time.

The penalties for the winners were utilised by Rafay Fahim, Omer Mumtaz and Jamshed Omer while Waseemuddin and Shahbuddin found the net for the losing side.

NED-UET captain Rafay Fahim received the winner’s trophy while BUITEMS’s skipper Shahabuddin accepted the runners-up trophy.

Earlier, in the third-position match, AKU beat Hamdard University (HU) 2-1 to take the third-position trophy, received by AKU captain Zahir Hussain.

Meanwhile, Rehan Munir of AKU was given the Best Player of the Tournament award with special consolation prizes awarded to Zahoor Shah of HU, Waqas Ahmed of NED, Zahir Hussain of AKU and Zahoor Shah of BUITEMS.
