KARACHI, April 8: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Sindh police on Friday claimed to have arrested two suspected militants of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in a Sohrab Goth area. In a statement, the CID officials said that the suspected militants — Shahid alias Goli and Mohammad Sharif alias Zareef alias Malang — were associated with the Qari Shakeel group of the banned outfit.

“They were arrested after a brief encounter in a Sohrab Goth area,” the statement quoted SSP of CID Fayyaz Khan as saying.

“Two TT pistols and multiple rounds were recovered from their possession. The suspects were involved in several incidents of terrorism and trained in Mohmand Agency.”

He said that the two youngsters were recruited in the TTP in 2008 and after a militancy training they left for Afghanistan to fight against the US-led forces.

“In 2010 they moved to Karachi and started extorting money from traders to generate funds. They also targeted several people who denied them cash, including traders,” said the SSP.

“The suspects were also wanted in several killings in Karachi while they had also been part of the militant groups which attacked the Pakistan Army in Mohmand Agency.”
