KARACHI, Oct 13: Provincial Police Officer/Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh, Syed Kamal Shah has expressed his determination for weeding out corrupt elements from the police department. He said this while participating in the “SOS” programme held here at Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation, Karachi.

The attention of the IGP was drawn by the public towards some incidents of police harassment, on which he immediately issued instructions to the deputy inspector general of police, operations branch, to enquire into the matter and resolve the grievance.

One of the callers complained about the nuisance of firecrackers during the holy month of Shaaban, and requested of the police to take action against vendors of firecrackers. The IGP immediately issued directives to the capital city police officer (CCPO) for taking the necessary steps in this regard.

The deputy inspector general of police, traffic branch, who was also present, in reply to a call, said all out efforts were being made to improve the traffic system in the city, particularly by adopting road safety measures and a public awareness programme. Arrangements have also been made to ensure provision of “road furniture” on all major roads of the city.—APP
