SWABI, March 23: Three members of Tablighee Jamaat were seriously injured in crossfire when two rival groups clashed in Yar Hussain area here on Wednesday.

Police said that the families of Arif Khan and Ali Khan had a dispute over ownership of a piece of land. The groups were busy in exchange of fire when three members of Tablighee Jamaat, passing through the area, sustained bullet injuries.

The injured were identified as Abdul Wasih, Inayatullah and Murad Khan. All of them belonged to Balochistan province, police said. They were taken to district headquarters hospital for treatment.

The district administration expressed deep anguish over the incident. Police conducted raids to arrest members of both the groups but they managed to escape.

UNION POLLS: Hamayun Khan was elected as chairman and Iftikhar Ahmad as general secretary of Wapda Hydro Electric Labour Union in its annual election here on Tuesday.

The jubilant supporters of Hamayun marched through Tarbela Dam residential colonies. They were seen dancing to drumbeats to celebrate the victory of their leader against his rival Afsar Khan.

Mohammad Usman Jadoon and Iqbal Shah Mashwani were elected as vice chairman and joint secretary of the union, respectively. The Hamayun group grabbed 466 votes and Afsar Khan group got 283 votes while 24 votes were declared invalid. The Wapda employees living in the six residential colonies exercised their right of vote. —Correspondent
