TAXILA, Oct 12: Ghulam Sarwar Khan group, a dissident from People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP), has swept the polls in the twin cities of Taxila and Wah Cantt.

The group won the national assembly and the two provincial assembly seats.

According to unofficial results, former Punjab minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan, contesting the elections as an independent candidate, has been elected on National Assembly seat NA-53. He defeated Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan of the PML-N.

In PP- 7, Malik Kamran Aslam of Sarwar Khan group defeated PML-N’s Safeer Khan.

Ghulam Sarwar Khan was again victorious in PP-8 constituency. He defeated PML-N/MMA joint candidate, Prof Mohammad Waqas Khan.

According to political observes, the position of Ghulam Sarwar Khan in the rural areas of the constituency was strong, while Chaudhry Nisar’s votebank was in the urban areas.

Furthermore, they said, the support of the union council Nazimeen and Naib Nazimeen played a pivotal role in Ghulam Sawar’s success.
