KARACHI, March 16: Twice postponed first leg of the bilateral Pakistan-Iran snooker series has finally been rescheduled from March 30 to April 6 at Tehran following request of the host nation.

Initiated between the top hierarchies of the two countries on the sidelines of the world snooker championship held at Damascus in Dec last, the proposed series was earlier supposed to be played from March 9 to 16 and again from March 23 to 30 but put off for want of visa formalities.

“We have received the air tickets from the Bowling and Cue Sports Association of Iran and will approach the Iranian consulate soon for granting visa to three players and an official,” President of PBSA, Alamgir Shaikh, told Dawn on Wednesday.

The Pakistan snooker team comprised Mohammad Shahid Aftab, Imran Shahzad and Mohammad Sajjad. Shahzad Riaz will accompany the team as manager.

According to new plan, the Tehran-bound squad will reassemble in the city on March 27 and will have their medical tests the following day. “The medical test is mandatory for all those who intend to visit Iran and Pakistan team has not exempted,” the PBSA official said.

He said PBSA would submit fresh visa applications on March 29.

It is pertinent to mention that the team had gone through mental agony as they reached Karachi from Islamabad earlier this month after a short stint of camp training before being dispersed.
